Prints - Norfolk
Norfolk, specifically Winterton-on-Sea was my childhood holiday destination and is a place I now share with my own children. I have childhood drawings of the beach in the 1980's which offer a glimpse into some of the changes and the constants. This shoreline is dynamic and the sea and wind are constantly reshaping it, action frequently at odds with human endeavours.
The acidic Winterton Dunes are internationally important for a multitude of rare species which they support; it's a place that makes me feel very much like humans are the visitors, that this is land primarily owned by other species and the elements.
Each print is a handmade original, please click on the image for further information.

Sketchbook Images
Images from sketchbooks filled over the years including the earliest drawing I can find, completed around 1987, aged 7or 8. There used to be two large posts on Winterton beach with neon red rectangles on top indicating the no swim zone (- rip tides?), the beach and sea bed profile has changed considerably and these were removed years ago, along with the old concrete 'fort' (something to do with WW2?) but I had forgotten they were there until I found this picture. It was drawn during the summer that there was an almost permanent pool between the groynes, topped up by each high tide and warmed daily by the sun - childhood heaven! This lifetime of memories feeds into my response, experience and research about Norfolk.
