Part of a series inspired by sitting on the highest dune, right above the beach at Winterton-on-Sea looking over the land. The title of this is inspired by the memory of bringing the children here with a bedtime story to read while the sun sets in spring and autumn.
This series of prints feels incredibly personal to me, this is where we would come in spring and autumn to read bedtime stories with the children while the sun sets, or to draw together or simply to have a cheeky glass of fizz, watch the sunset and celebrate being together on holiday in our favourite place.
Thoughts of impermanence, flux and constant change in the landscape alongside the permanence of historic habitats and the species who depend upon it stretching back through time are juxtaposed in these works. They reference sketches made to the sound of the sea and children's laughter feeling the glow of being on holiday with my family, and the slight irritation of knowing any second I'd have to pack the sketchbook away as my husband and children have run down to the beach and the dog's off looking for something smelly to roll in!
