This print was made intuitively whilst working on the imagery for the larger pieces in the 'Welcome' exhibition.  People and goods arriving and the question of exactly who and what is welcome and on what terms is a question as old as humanity, I'm sure.  The idea of taking the word welcome and distorting it played into the idea of a distorted and possibly insincere or conditional welcome depending on who or what is arriving.   
Suminagashi marbling was added to reflect the watery theme of the Thames as well as being reminiscent of contour lines on a map reflecting the mapping of land over time.
