This is a traditional one plate reduction linocut.  The same plate was used to print the whole edition.  The inked area covers the whole paper.
 
This print explores light, perspective and stillness in the forest as the seasons turn and winter gives way to spring.  Distant foliage merges into mist with only the tree trunks discernable in between.  The forest floor is still cold where sunlight can't yet reach and last years bracken is dried and dull.  In the foreground clearing a slowly warming sun illuminates the bracken so that it glows a fiery auburn, reminiscent of autumn.  The grasses are at the peak of their height and contrast with the rest of the forest colours, soon the new growth will appear, more subtle and more green.  
 
My prints are all made by hand, each layer of each print is individually inked and pressed therefore there are individual variations within each edition.  Every print is a unique and orginial work of art.
